Why did we buy a
Mini Aussie?

During a vacation in Idaho, we met a Miniature Australian Shepherd named Thelma Lou. We fell in love with her because she was able to be very loving and affectionate, while simultaneously not needy and co-dependent (like our pit bull).
Thelma Lou was brilliant with a beautiful blue merle coat, and she quickly picked up on some tricks we taught her during our week-long stay. Her owner let us take her everywhere-- from hiking to shopping in town.
For us, this little Mini Aussie was the total package in a dog. Intelligent, beautiful, loving, and active just enough. Thelma Lou brought to mind the joyful spirit of Bill's childhood dog, Boots.

Two months later, Alice found a fantastic Mini Aussie breeder in Idaho. We flew back to Idaho and brought our first Miniature Australian Shepherd puppy “Bear” home. We have loved every moment since.

Katy, our second mini aussie
We purchased our second Miniature Australian Shepherd, "Katy", under different circumstances than Bear. Katy was confined alone in a small pen, prompting Alice to take her home out of pity. Regrettably, we inadvertently purchased Katy from an unscrupulous Mini Aussie breeder operating a puppy mill.

Katy, never properly socialized as a puppy, continues to struggle with anxiety. Subsequent testing revealed that she carries two genes that will likely lead to significant health issues in the future.
​
We made the decision to have Katy spayed, and she has since become Alice’s devoted lap dog.
After this experience, we are committed to advocating for better, more compassionate ways to breed Miniature Australian Shepherds in a healthy, loving, and honest manner.
