Black Tri mini Aussie looking cute

Bill and Alice have a lovely home and they care deeply about their dogs and their Mini Aussie puppies.

They are responsive to any questions that arose and went out of their way to pick up travel meds at their vet for our day of pick up.

We would definitely recommend them. Samantha is a wonderful addition to our home. She is well socialized, very friendly, walks well on a leash and a sweetheart. We will definitely get a future Mini Aussie puppy from them.

Run'n Bear mini Aussie won best of breed

I got my boy from Run’n Bear in January. He is the son of Orofino and Bear. He has been an amazing addition to our family.

I have shown him in confirmation where he got best of breed. He has also passed his Canine Good Citizen test and gotten his trick dog title. He kayaks and hikes with us and is the best snuggle buddy!

Our sweet Midnight "Mattie" came from Bill and Alice at Run'n Bear kennels. I cannot say enough great things about the quality of dogs they are producing! The care, time, and effort they put into their dogs is top-notch! She is super smart, so easy to train, loyal, and protective. To my family and I, Mattie is the perfect pup!

Why Choose a Mini Aussie Puppy?

Miniature Australian Shepherds, often affectionately called Mini Aussies, are known for their unmatched intelligence, affectionate personalities, and eagerness to learn. Here’s why they make such outstanding companions: Highly Intelligent – Easy to train and quick to learn new commands or tricks. Adaptable & Loyal – Great for families, couples, or individuals—whether you live in the city or on a farm. Compact & Versatile – Their medium size makes them a perfect fit for most homes. Endlessly Loving – Expect tail wags, snuggles, and constant companionship. Whether you’re looking for a hiking buddy, an agility sport partner, or a loyal lap dog, a Mini Aussie puppy from Run’n Bear will bring joy to every part of your life.

Mini Aussie vs. Standard Aussie

The Miniature Australian Shepherd, affectionately known as the Mini Aussie, shares the same roots as the Standard Australian Shepherd—but with a more compact frame and slightly different energy dynamics. Both are brilliant, loving, and loyal, but one might be a better fit for your lifestyle depending on your home, schedule, and goals. 📏 Size & Build Mini Aussie: 14–18 inches tall, 20–35 pounds Standard Aussie: 18–23 inches tall, 40–65 pounds The Mini Aussie is perfect for people who want the traits of a herding dog in a more manageable size—ideal for smaller homes, urban environments, or people who prefer a dog that’s easier to travel with. Energy Level & Exercise Needs Both varieties can be high-energy and intelligent dogs, but Minis tend to be slightly more adaptable. Mini Aussies: Thrive with daily walks, training games, and moderate playtime. They adjust well to active homes and slower routines alike. Standard Aussies: Need more space to roam and are generally better suited to rural properties or highly active owners. Intelligence & Trainability Both breeds rank among the most intelligent dogs in the world and are eager to learn. With consistent, positive reinforcement, they excel in: Obedience Agility Herding Trick training Dog sports Mini Aussies may be a bit more people-oriented, making them slightly easier for first-time dog owners to handle compared to the more intense drive of a Standard. Lifestyle Fit Mini Aussie: Ideal for families, singles, retirees, and even apartment dwellers—if mental and physical needs are met. Standard Aussie: Best for active individuals or families with land, livestock, or a very outdoorsy lifestyle.

Docked Tails in Mini Aussies

Why We Dock Tails on Our Mini Aussie Puppies At Run’n Bear Mini Aussies, we are committed to preserving the traditional look and breed standard of the Miniature Australian Shepherd. That’s why we dock the tails on all of our puppies—a practice rooted in the breed’s history and purpose. While some may choose to leave tails natural, we believe the docked tail contributes to the classic, balanced silhouette that makes the Mini Aussie instantly recognizable. For us, it’s not just about appearance—it’s about honoring the heritage of a working breed that was originally bred for agility, function, and form. Breed Standard Alignment: Docked tails are still part of the recognized conformation standard in most registries and show organizations. Working Dog Tradition: Historically, tails were docked to prevent injury while herding livestock in rugged terrain. Aesthetic Balance: We believe a docked tail complements the Mini Aussie’s build and gives them that signature, alert look we love. Our decision to dock tails reflects both our personal vision for the breed and our respect for its origins. If you have questions or want to learn more about this practice, we’re always happy to have a thoughtful conversation.

Do Mini Aussies Shed?

Yes—Miniature Australian Shepherds do shed, especially during seasonal coat changes in the spring and fall. They have a beautiful double coat that protects them year-round, which means they naturally shed the undercoat to regulate body temperature. Shedding Seasons: Heavier shedding occurs twice a year (spring and fall). Year-Round Shedding: Expect some light shedding weekly—it's normal! Pro Tip: Regular brushing helps control shedding and keeps your home cleaner. If you're looking for a completely non-shedding breed, the Mini Aussie may not be the best fit—but with the right grooming routine, their coat is very manageable.
